Stacey Zhang Boutique Launch Party

Montreal based designer Stacey Zhang invited Toronto Moda to the launch party for her first Toronto boutique at 292 Queen Street West April 27th 2011. Nestled amongst mass retailers such as Zara, H&M and Aritzia, this Montreal-based designer is a welcome change to the aesthetic of lower Queen West. We were greeted with champagne, delicate croissant sandwiches, irresistible Macarons from Nadege (752 Queen St. West) and an array of unpretentious Torontonians. Stacey Zhang's designs employ mainly luxurious, natural fabrics and simple, yet structurally interesting lines (Think silk chiffon, waxed cotton, jersey Tencel). Her clothing is extremely wearable, well-finished and (best of all)very reasonably priced. Price points range from around $85.00 to $350.00 with Fall coats and leathers having a slightly higher price tag.
The Toronto boutique, like it's sister in Montreal, will host regular cocktail and clientele events, giving consumers a chance to interact with the designer, pick up some style tips and shop in a relaxed environment. I believe that many women will find the Stacey Zhang aesthetic appealing:from the modern businesswoman to those in a creative field, to the style conscious student who has a little bit of OSAP money to spend(Let's be serious, we know they're not using all that money on tuition and books).

I did find the location a little strange though-why not set up shop further west? Stacey explained: "Our Montreal boutique is on St. Catherine's, which is a very high-traffic area dominated by many mass-retailers. We wanted to give customers a change, and show that we can compete with larger brands, so we chose a location here which was comparable". I sincerely wish Stacey the best of luck and hope that her arrival in Toronto signals that we are finally getting with the times.
