Last week I was invited to The Macallan tasting event at 99 Sudbury. We at Toronto Moda aren't what you'd call Whisky connaisseurs but it didn't stop us from giving this a go. When we arrived, 99 Sudbury was decorated perfectly with red chairs and a great ambiance.
Amongst the Whisky were many delectable cheeses, breads, olives and meats. When paired with the Whisky's, they were just delicious! We tasted the 10 year, 12 year, 15 year and 18 year old Whisky, which just trickled down your throat. There were brief information sessions along with the tastings which helped, especially since I'm what you'd call a "newbie" when it comes to Scotch.
The Macallan distillery is located, where else, but in Scotland, in a little town called Speyside. The Jacobean manor house, built in 1700, is The Macallan's Spiritual Home. Now, we know of The Macallan as a premium Whiskey. Most recently, a rare 64 year old bottle went up for auction in New York and sold for a whopping $460,000!
Although, I'm not an avid Whisky drinker, this event was still quite the treat! The venue was perfectly suited for this event and the crowd couldn't have been better. I can now say I have a stronger appreciation for Scotch, and maybe some of the cheeses too!
