One of the Top restaurants in Calgary recently hosted an event to showcase seafood growers in Canada. The event showcased every type of seafood farmed in Canadian waters – including tilapia from Alberta – and growers from across the country were on hand to provide helpful cooking tips, and shopping advice.
The main message – Seafood farmers want to let Canadians know “We farm a lot more than just salmon, and aquaculture is the most sustainable way to meet the growing demand for seafood.”
Ruth Salmon (yes, that is her real last name!) from the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance was available for interviews, and wine pairings were also provided by Sandhill Winery of Kelowna, B.C.
The event was full of information on artic char, salmon, clams and halibut to name a few. Industry leaders we talked to had a lot to say about the differences in farmed and freshwater fish and how they can inform more Canadians about the advantages of Canadian farmed fish.
The evening was full of great information and invitations to some of Canada's best facilities for product tasting and more information on growers in Canada.
